So, You've decided that Yahoo! is for you.

The process of paying for your site to be listed in Yahoo! isn't very complicated, but there are a few things you should know before taking the plunge.

First, you must decide in which directory category to be listed.
Search for one that you feel best suits your company. You might even do a search for your competitors to see where they're listed. Once you have navigated to that category page (and probably looking at the listings of all your competitors) click on the "Suggest a Site" link at the bottom of the Yahoo! page. You'll be taken to an entrance page for their Yahoo! Express program. From here Yahoo! does a good job of walking you through the rest of the process.

You'll need to construct a title and site description.
Look again at your competitor's listings. Notice that Yahoo! will only allow the legitimate title of your business/web site to be used, so don't try to pack the title you send with anything funny. Now look at the descriptions for your competitors' sites. The better ones that stick out will include a brief and honest description of their products and services. Yahoo! won't allow any good, better or best claims here (i.e. no marketing hype). So, when fashioning your description put together a short one or two lines that include several of the most important keywords that people searching for your services might use. If wetcement design built your site just give us a call, or send us an Email and we'll be happy to review your Yahoo! listing with you.

Yahoo! will review your site within 7 business days.
Ninety percent of the time the Yahoo! editor will rewrite your description, usually making it shorter (notice how most of the listings include the title and description on a single line?). They may also decide that the category you submitted to be not the most appropriate and will move your listing to another. Don't worry. When your site is accepted you'll be given an E-mail address to contact if have any issues with your listing. In general, if the changes they made look OK then I'd leave well enough alone. But if they've missed the mark completely, or omitted an important keyword from your description, I'd let them know. Most of the time they'll oblige if your complaint is well founded, I just wouldn't split hairs with them.

That's it! Now that you're in Yahoo! its time to focus on other
Strategies for Promoting Your Web Site.
